Full Description

PRN 70435 The building first depicted on the Dewhirst and Nichols Map of 1839. {1} An independent chapel erected in 1819-20. It was a separate and entire building, used only as a place of worship and for the Sunday School.The building could accommodate a congregation of up to 300 people. {2} The independent group were formed in 1820 and held services in a building off Tanners Lane. This group had their origins in a group of Baptists who had succeeded from the Zion Chapel (PRN 70434) and the remains of this chapel, now converted into industrial buildings, survive. They represent an important (and now rare) survival of an early dissenters' chapel in Lincoln. Although the sect had moved to new premises it seems that occasional services were held in the chapel until 1907. {3}
