The chapel is first depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1905 (1938 Revision).{1}
The chapel was built during the late Victorian to Edwardian expansion of the city during the period 1890 to 1910. Documents relating to the chapel suggest the community was established in 1894. However, the building appears to have been built in 1907.{2}
The main entrance to the chapel fronts on to Gresham Street. There is a 1960s/70s Sunday School extension to the south which fronts onto West Parade. {3}
