Full Description
The former Free United (or Wesleyan Reformers) Chapel on High Street was built in 1853. It was constructed of red brick with a pantile roof, and has a raised gable with stone copings and red brick dressings around the doorways and window. There are also stone mouldings over the doors. The windows on the street frontage are round headed, but are all blocked. The building was converted to use as the village hall, at some point in the early to mid 20th century, and has had new parts added, including a new roof, which overhangs the windows. The foundation stones are now unreadable. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}
A marble memorial plaque commemorating the First World War fallen from Saxilby with Ingleby is located inside the main entrance to Saxilby Village Hall. The plaque was originally located within the former pavilion building at the Memorial Recreation Field, which opened on the 20th of April 1921 (see MLI125293). The plaque was moved to the village hall after the original pavilion building was demolished and replaced with a new structure in 1970. {7}
