Full Description

The Old School was built in 1852 and constructed in red brick with ashlar dressings. It has a slate roof with ashlar coped gables. It is single storey and has two bays. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} The former National School, dated 1852, is a modest, symmetrical composition with gabled porches either side of a centrally placed external chimney stack. {2} The school is noted as being built by subscription in 1852 in White's 1856 Trade Directory. It is shown in the same plan form on both the 1888 and 1905 OS maps of Rowston. {3}{4}{5}
