Full Description

54988 The former Wesleyan chapel located on Front Street was built in 1813, and enlarged in 1825 and 1845. By 1856 it belonged to the Free Methodists, but had closed by 1862. Presumably it was superseded by the Free Methodist chapel on Private Lane (see 55000). A further chapel and Sunday School are indicated on Front Street in 1906, which no longer survive, but date stones on the site indicate construction dates of 1861 and 1867 (see 54989). The former Wesleyan chapel was subsequently used as a Sunday School, but this was no longer the case by the 1950s. The building has rendered walls and a hipped pantile roof. The front and sides are divided into three bays by plain pilaster butresses. The structure is much altered, and the windows on the street frontage are not original. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
