Full Description

PRN 45705 Systematic fieldwalking was undertaken as part of a phased programme of archaeological investigation for a proposed mineral extraction site on land east of Annpasture Lane, Tattershall Thorpe. There were few prehistoric finds from the site and these were all flint implements dating from the late Mesolithic to the early Bronze Age. The distribution of the flint is fairly evenly spread across the field, although there seems to be very little from the south-west corner of the field where only a single late Mesolithic / early Neolithic flake was recovered. The remainder of the flints showed little of interest except the high percentage which may indicate burning in hearths {1} Further worked flints including a core, a core fragment, a scraper, a knife and assorted flakes, chips and chunks were recovered during trial trenching on this site. Over half the assemblage consisted of burnt flints which may have been used as 'pot boilers'. A fragment of sandstone 'pot boiler' was also recovered. {2}{3}
