Full Description

Bridge, built in the eighteenth century and damaged in a flood in 1920. Simple design consisting of two arches with palladian style stone balustrade. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2} The bridge forms an attractive group with the Old Mill (PRN 45571) and Mill House (PRN 47167). {3} The Bridge was assessed by English Heritage in May 2013, as part of the Louth Defined Area Survey, resulting in an amendment to its List Entry Description. The bridge is a two-arch structure with masonry cutwaters on the upstream side, and is the principal crossing point of the River Lud in the historic centre of Louth. It is thought to date to the 18th century, and is clearly shown, complete with cutwaters, in Brown's mid 19th century painting, Panorama. The bridge suffered flood damage in 1920, and appears to have undergone further alteration by the attachment of various service pipes to its flanks. It is constructed of ashlar sandstone, with some replacement balusters fashioned in concrete, and some brick underpinning below the parapets. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {4}{5}
