Full Description

PRN 23905 Archaeological evaluation (trial trenching) along the proposed route of the A1073 relief road between Eye (near Peterborough) and Spalding. The evaluation identified two post-medieval ditches. One of the ditches had a wide, flat-based V-shape profile with gently sloping sides and contained post-medieval brick. The other ditch had a broad, concave profile with sides becoming increasingly steep towards the top, and also contained post-medieval brick {1} {2} During set piece excavation in advance of the construction of the amended route of the A1073 nine roughly circular ditches/gullies were recorded which have been interpreted as hayrick drainage ditches. {4}{5}
