Full Description

PRN 23892 Archaeological evaluation (trial trenching) along the proposed route of the A1073 relief road between Eye (near Peterborough) and Spalding. The evaluation identified a ditch containing two fills, one of which contained pottery dating to the mid 13th to mid 15th century AD (TF2539019295). The ditch probably served as a drainage or boundary ditch, although this was not proven {1} {2} During excavation two phases of medieval activity was recognised, the ealiest probably representing salt making (Prn XXXXX), and the second land boundaries associated with an agricultural landscape. A series of linear ditches were recorded over the central ares of the site which relate to land divisions associated with fields and paddocks of an agricultural landscape. {4}{5}
