Full Description

Sherds of Romano-British pottery were recovered from silt mounds in this location. {1} A larger scatter of more than 200 sherds of Roman pottery was found in this location during the Fenland Survey. The assemblage included sherds of grey ware, shell-gritted ware, Samian, mortaria, colour-coated ware and white ware. A single sherd of possibly late Iron Age pottery was also recovered. This site probably represents the remains of a late Iron Age to Romano-British farmstead. {2} Cropmarks of a number of adjoining rectilinear enclosures can be clearly discerned in this area on an aerial photograph taken c.1970. The form of the enclosures would seem to support the idea that a former farmstead stood in this location. {3}
