Full Description

34671 Ouseby is an extinct hamlet in Birthorpe, which was formerly in the parish of Stow by Threckingham, but is now in Sempringham. It is documented in the Domesday Book, at which time there was a manor and a berewic belonging to Colsuain, and a further manor belonging to Suen, and a berewic of a manor in Newton near Folkingham belonging to Odo the Arblaster. Mills and a church are also mentioned. The minimum population at that time was 15. Birthorp cum Useby was villata in 1316, and Birthorp and Ouseby was also documented in 1327. {1} Pottery dating from the twelfth century onwards and a fragment of mid to late Saxon lava quern were recovered from the site during field walking (at TF 1052 3452) as part of the Fenland Survey. Stamford ware, a bronze buckle and a fourteenth century coin have also been recovered from the site. {2}
