Full Description

PRN 70363 An archaeological watching brief was conducted during the excavation of geotechnical pits on land at the former Anchor Street Works, Anchor Street, Lincoln. The watching brief required the monitoring of 24 machine-excavated geotechnical trial pits (nominally 2m long and 0.60m wide). In Trial Pit 2, a deposit of light to mid yellowish brown clay sand was revealed c.060m below the existing ground level. The deposit contained occasional inclusions of charcoal and tile fragments (dated to the late 12th to 14th century). Although not important in themselves, the finds (in conjunction with others recovered during this and previous investigations) indicate Medieval activity on or immediately adjacent to the site {1} {2}
