Full Description

PRN 62965 The earliest phase of this typical fenland farm seems to have been c.1800. This probably consisted of no more than a stable with a granary above. The farm expanded in the second quarter of the 19th century, the stable was extended, a barn, two shelter sheds, and a chaff house (this housed an oat crop, of which the entire crop was chopped for feed for horses and cattle) were added. The farm was extended again soon after, this time a cart shed was converted to house extra livestock. A new cart shed was built to replace that one and a calf house, piggery, and fowl house were also added. {1} Darwood House, Swaton. Partially extant 19th century farmstead. Loose courtyard with three sides of the courtyard formed by working agricultural buildings. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings. Located within or in association with a village. {2}
