Full Description

PRN 45497 A programme of non-intrusive archaeological fieldwork, invloving systematic field walking and rapid magnetic susceptibility survey, was carried out on the site of a proposed flood relief zone in the vicinity of the River Warring to the north of Horncastle. Fieldwalking recovered low densities of material dating from the Mesolithic to the early modern periods, with a relative concentration of artefacts in the north-west of the site. The greatest number of pottery finds were from the Post-Roman periods, with a preponderance of medieval types dating to the mid 13th to mid 16th century found in the southern part of Field 2. The material was heavily abraded, and possibly derived from manure scattering associated with a farm located to the west of Louth Road, believed to be of medieval origin {1} {2}
