Full Description

Former school and schoolmaster's house. One and a half and two storey red brick building, under a pitched gabled slate roof. The two storey schoolmaster's residence at the south end of the building has a large lateral stack. There is a dedication stone in the shape of a scroll on the northern cross-gable. {1} The National School was built in 1855 with a Church of England Foundation. This was the result of much fundraising in the village. It was forced to change to a boarding school in 1893. In 1902 the control of the school was handed over to the County Council. The school finally closed its doors in 1982. It was used as a church hall for a few years and was finally sold in 1986. {2}{3}{4}
