Full Description

An earthwork mound was noted in this area in 1999, during a walk-over survey of land at the Brocklesby Estate. The mound was oval in plan, located approximately 50m to the south-west of the Pelham Mausoleum, and measured roughly 40m long, 25m wide and 1.5m high. The exact date of the mound's construction could not be determined. It is possible that this was the location of an early post-medieval windmill, depicted in this vicinity on an Estate Map of 1676 (see PRN 50705). {1}{2} A triangulation station is marked in this location on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map, indicating the mound was utilised by the OS surveyors in mapping the local area. {3}
