Full Description

Earthwork remains of medieval settlement activity, including the remains of probable former crofts, tofts, quarries and ridge and furrow, identified on aerial photography by the National Mapping Programme. {1} Further traces of medieval activity were noted in May 2003, during a site visit conducted to inform proposed development on land at Mapleton Farm. Earthwork remains of possible medieval hollow ways were noted to the west of the current farmhouse and along the western hedge boundary in the field to the immediate south of the farmstead. A scatter of medieval roof tile was noted in the north-western corner of the same field, and two sherds of medieval pottery were also retrieved from the topsoil. {2}{3}
