Full Description

PRN 62798 Bloxholm Hall was built in the mid seventeenth century in the Artisan Mannerism style. It was the altered in 1772 when the house was given on its central gable, a stone peacock by Coade. Further alterations and renovations were made in 1827 with the addition of wings. {1} The mid 17th century house erected for Cyprian Thornton has been demolished. However, one of the wing's added by Lewis Vulliamy for general Manners in 1830-6 survives, along with a fragment of the kitchen wing.{2} The building fell into ruin and was partly demolished in 1963 leaving only the west wing still standing, which survives today as Bloxholm Hall Farmhouse. {3} Country house, now farmhouse. 1707 and 1827 designed by Lewis Vulliamy, with 20th century alterations. Coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings. Slate roofs, with a single ashlar coped gable. 3 gable and 2 lateral stacks, of various designs. This building was originally the north service wing of Bloxholm Hall, built 1707 for Septimus Ciprian Thornton, enlarged 1772 and again in 1827 for George Manners by Lewis Vulliamy. The hall was largely demolished c1960. Partially extant 18th century farmstead. Regular courtyard of U plan. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been a partial loss (less than 50%) of traditional buildings.
