Nineteen sherds of early Anglo-Saxon pottery were recovered in April 2002, during an excavation at 8 Church Lane, South Witham. The sherds date from between 450 AD and 650 AD. The vessels are handmade Charnwood type ware. Amongst the assemblage were two rim sherds from plain upright rimmed globular vessels and two decorated sherds with incised line decoration. These finds may indicate an early date for the settlement of South Witham. {1}{2}
