Full Description
Originally a private house built in the late 18th century, with alterations from the 20th century. The building was converted into a branch of the Midland Bank at some point in the early 20th century, before later becoming a branch of Barclays Bank in the 1970s (with the Midlands Bank moving into 23 Market Place - see MLI83789). It is now in use as offices for an accountancy firm. It is constructed of squared limestone rubble, with ashlar quoins and dressings, and features a Collyweston slate roof with stone coped gable and plain tiled hipped end to the right. There are single gable and ridge ashlar chimney stacks. The building is laid to an L-shaped plan, and is of three storeys, with a three-bay front with three flush ashlar bands. The central 20th century door has a traceried fanlight and an open dentillated pediment to wooden doorcase, and is flanked by single broad 20th century glazing bar sashes. To the first floor are three original narrower glazing bar sashes and to second floor are three small square similar windows. All the windows have raised stepped keyblocks. To the right side front is a further similar doorcase with glazing bar sash to the right and three similar windows to the upper floors, all with matching keyblocks.
