Full Description

Former school at 62 and 64 Church Street, thought to have been built in 1819. The school closed in 1965, and was converted to use as a private house soon after. The building is constructed of coursed and banded limestone and a Collyweston slate roof, with two storeys and a five bay front. Above on window is a stone panel inscribed 'Erected by the Feofees of Market Deeping Charity Estates A.D. 1819'. To either side of the door are boot scraper insets. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2} In his 1856 Trade Directory, White states that the Free School in Market Deeping was built in 1819, and had recently been enlarged. By 1872 it was described as an Endowed School, and was attended by 80 pupils. {3}{4}
