Full Description

PRN 33457 Foundations of a modest building found in the garden of 45 Church Street. It appears to be a c.17th century building with a medieval building beneath, c.14th-15th pottery was recovered. Stone walls with a hearth. {1} During clearing of land on the site of Old Deeping St James feofee houses in 1971 a large quantity of stone was found. Foundations were uncovered of a complex of buildings dating from c.14-19th century. One of the substantial remains are those of a c.17 dwelling house with the fireplace. A coin of 1673 was found at this level. Remains of c14 reed and daub building with a posthole, whether this was a dwelling or a workshop is undertermined. Wide variety of c.14th-15th century pottery fragments mostly of Stamford ware. {1}
