Full Description

62561 Trial excavations were carried out in 1955-56 to the north of the moated complex in an area of earthworks. A section was dug through a mound. Sherds of coarse pottery, including one decorated with a single row of cross-in-circle stamps between two girth grooves, which are said to be pagan Saxon. A piece of daub was also recovered. It is suggested that the evidence represents occupation rather than a cemetery. {1}{2}{3}{4}
