Full Description

Former malthouses, built in the 1860s and 1870s. The malthouses lie either side of an alley running north from Brayford Wharf North. The upper storeys form the frontage to Brayford Wharf North bridge over the alley to connect the two malthouses. {1} Greens Building, the last surviving malthouse structure, was surveyed in 2003/4 prior to its demolition. It was in existence by 1842 when it is shown on Padley's map of Lincoln. When surveyed it comprised three remaining elements, with more having once been present but now demolished. Some of the structure showed signs of fire damage and wet rot. All three units were constructed from local red brick with hipped roofs and segmental arched opening. Their general arrangement follows a common architectural treatment for Victorian light industrial buildings. Despite recent alterations and the fire damage, numerous original external and internal features e.g. roof beams were present. {2}{3}
