Full Description
This tower mill bears the datestone 'J.B. 1864' and worked by wind until the 1920s, continuing by engine after losing its sails in a gale. The original gear was removed in the 1930s and modern machinery installed. It is still used, now powered by electricity. There were four patent sails driving three pairs of stones on the first floor. Work is now carried out by a combined roller and grinding mill, with an electric sackhoist. The second floor remains virtually the same as when the mill was wind powered, and on the dust floor some of the old sack hoist remains in place. {1}
