Full Description

PRN 62354 The cottage to the west of the Golden Cross pub is early eighteenth century in date, and has one storey. It is of timber framed and red brick construction, with a thatched half hipped roof, covered with corrugated iron sheeting. To the left of the cottage is a late eighteenth century outhouse constructed of brick and pantile. The Golden Cross pub is not included in the listing. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} The cottage, also known as The Old Vicarage, was restored in 1989 and is now in use as a museum and visitor centre. It has a mud and stud east wall dating to the mid 17th century, with the others being 18th century brick. It served as the vicarage until 1734 when a replacement was built nearby and the old building sold. Nearby is a single story red brick workshop with a datestone reading 'WP 1870' above the door. It was built probably for agricultural use but is currently used as a blacksmith's workshop. {2}
