Full Description

PRN 62261 Two churches and two priests are mentioned in an entry in Domesday Book for Leadenham and Fulbeck, one of which was presumably located at Leadenham. {5} St Swithun's is built mainly in the Decorated style, with a Perpendicular recessed spire and north porch. The chancel ceiling was painted by Pugin in 1841 while on a visit to the Reverend Bernard Smith. A general restoration took place in 1861 by J H Hakewill. {1} The tower is of four stages with a battlemented parapet. In the angle between the chancel and the vestry is a battlemented stair turret, and the openings for the rood-stair can be seen in the south-east corner of the nave. A piscina can be found in the chancel, and another in the north aisle. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {2} Stained glass in this church dates to about 1500-25 and consists of a Te Deum Window purchased in Belgium in 1827 by the Reverend at the time, probably originating from a Rouen atelier (workshop). It represents the Lord's Session in Glory, three-fold office of Christ: Priest, King and Prophet. {3}{6}
