Former school. Single storey building of coursed limestone rubble, under a pitched gabled slate roof. Small bell gable on the street-facing elevation, under which is a datestone reading 'NATIONAL SCHOOLS 1851'. Three gable stacks. Gables are coped in stone. {1} White's 1856 Trade Directory notes that the National School in Harmston opened in 1851, paid for by subscription and government grant, and was attended at the time by 120 pupils. In 1872 the number of pupils was recorded as only 60. {2}{3} The school building is shown in the same plan form on both the 1887 and 1905 OS maps of the village. {4}{5} The school closed in 1983 and re-opened as the Cliff Centre in 1989. It is considered to be a Significant unlisted building within the Conservation Area. {6}
