Full Description

The village school was built in 1869 to a design by Sir G.G.Scott. It is built of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2}{3} A school, supported by the Earl of Ripon, is mentioned in White's 1856 Trade Directory. In the 1872 edition, a Mr David Bratt is mentioned as 'National schoolmaster' in Nocton. {4}{5} The school can be seen on both the 1888 and 1905 OS maps of the village. {6}{7}
