Full Description

61673 Mere was a medieval village of some importance with a church, the site of which is not known. It is mentioned in the Feudal Aids of 1316. It was a separate parish which was unified with Branston in 1418 and by 1428 there were fewer than 10 householders. There are earthworks which appear to be confined to the small park in which Mere Hall stands. They consist of amorphous earthworks with occasional disconnected stretches of wall breaking the ground surface. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
