Full Description

61697 Ten looped and socketed axes of late Bronze Age date were found about two feet down in a gravel pit on Branston Hall Estate in 1906. Four of the axes have circular sockets. A further socketed axe from Branston is in the Greetwell Collection in the British Museum. Four are in the City and County Museum. {1}{2}{3}{4} P. Davey states that the hoard appears to be composed entirely of unused axeheads but A. White says that in fact only four of them are unused.{3}{6}
