Full Description

PRN 61630 During trial trenching, two gullies were recorded. One was dated to the 13th-14th century from a potsherd, the other was undated, but can be assumed to date to the same period due to its close proximity to the dated gully. The dated gully was aligned north-west/south-east, while the other was aligned north-east/south-west. Three undated features (two linear) were also recorded. Although undated, these features were sealed beneath a medieval subsoil/ploughsoil, so they must be medieval or earlier. The function of the pits is uncertain but they shared the same fill, so it can be concluded that they were part of an area of ground disturbance. A tentative interpretation is that they were a series of shallow pits for clay extraction.{1}{2}
