Full Description

During trial trenching, two ditches containing pottery dating to the first and second centuries were recorded. The pottery predates the accepted date for pottery production at the kiln site nearby (PRN 33196), possibly providing information on land-use in the area prior to the beginning of the pottery industry in the area. {1}{2} An excavation and watching brief recorded a north/south drainage ditch with two smaller drainage ditches feeding into it. A further undated ditch is thought to be Roman due to the similarity in fills. Human bone was recovered from this ditch, but had been disturbed by the ground clearance, making it impossible to say whether the burial was whole or disarticulated. No further burials were found. {3}{4}
