Full Description

61431 A Methodist Chapel is located on Chapel Lane. It was built in 1815 of coursed limestone rubble with partial render and a slate roof, and is single storey. Attached to the east is a low ashlar wall with coping and cart iron spear head railings and gate. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2} A site visit was made in 2009. The Wesleyan chapel has flat-headed glazing bar windows, clasping corner buttresses and a broad wooden eaves band. The south-east gable has a round-headed recess. A broad ashlar band, which runs under the eaves of the side elevations, continues across the gable elevation at the level of the recess imposts and outlines the arch of the recess. A flat-roofed porch contains a flat-headed door and a flat-headed sash window with coloured margin lights. Documentary sources suggest that the original building of 1815 or 1820 was replaced by a new building in 1849.{4}{5}{6}{7}{8}.
