Full Description
Earthwork remains of ridge and furrow dating to either the medieval or post-medieval period were recorded during a topographical survey. The earthworks were identified on both north to south and east to west alignments at TF 5503 6403. Earthwork remains of ridge and furrow were also observed in the field directly to the north at TF 5512 6419. {1}{2}
Two areas of medieval ridge and furrow were recorded during an earthwork survey, conducted ahead of residential development on land at Warth Lane/Lincoln Road, Skegness. In the southern third of the field the earthworks are well preserved, oriented north-west to south-east and display a typical reverse 'S' curve in plan, with a headland on the western (Warth Lane) side. North of this, ridge and furrow is much less discernable, and is present only a slight undulations in the gound surface. Here it is oriented north-east to south-west. Between the two areas, there are two larger banks bordering a ditch or hollow way. {3}
Further enclosures and field boundaries visible on aerial photographs and recorded by the National Mapping Programme are to the north-east of the ridge and furrow and relate to this complex. {4}
