Full Description

The racecourse was over the Heath where the RAF Waddington is now. Horse racing went back at least to the days of James I. Later the race horses were brought by road and lodged in the village, hence the names of the inn, The Horse and Jockey and The Three Horse Shoes. Racing probably ceased in 1772 when the Heath was enclosed and hedges planted. {1}
