PRN 70099
DURING EXCAVATIONS IN ADVANCE OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION THE REMAINS OF THE ROMAN CITY WALL WAS FOUND. THE EXPOSED SECTIONS STOOD 4 OR 5 COURSES HIGH AND CONSISTED OF ROUGHLY DRESSED LIMESTONE BLOCKS BONDED WITH A VERY LIGHT BROWN SANDY MORTAR AND CONTINUED BELOW THE LIMIT OF EXCAVATION. IN ADDITION MATERIAL ASSOCIATED WITH THE RAMPART WAS IDENTIFIED, POTTERY DATING TO MID SECOND AND THIRD CENTURY WAS FOUND. THERE WERE TWO PITS CUT INTO THESE DEPOSITS. {1}{2}{3}, HTM 7.28M
