Full Description

DURING AN EVALUATION ON THE SITE OF THE NORTH LINCS COLLEGE NEW ACCOMODATION BLOCKS, CATHEDRAL STREET, A POSSIBLY LATE MEDIEVAL/EARLY POST MEDIEVAL STONE WALL WAS REVEALED IN APPROXIMATELY THE CENTRE OF THE DEVELOPMENT AREA. {1} A SUBSEQUENT WATCHING BRIEF IDENTIFIED A METALLED SURFACE WHICH PROBABLY REPRESENTS THE ROAD WHICH LINKED CLASKETGATE WITH POTTERGATE PRIOR TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF LINDUM ROAD IN 1785. SEVERAL RUBBISH PITS DATED TO THE C13- C14, INCLUDING A STONE-LINED EXAMPLE, WERE ALSO RECORDED. THEY MAY HAVE OCCUPIED AN AREA TO THE REAR OF THE ROAD, BUT NO STRUCTURAL REMAINS WERE REVEALED TO CONFIRM THIS. {2}
