SOME OF THE POTTERY WAS ASSOCIATED WITH BURNT CLAY, STONE AND CHARCOAL RESIDUES, AND THERE WAS A HIGH PROPORTION OF WASTERS. THIS INDICATES THAT POTTERY KILNS WERE LOCATED IN THE VICINITY OF THE TRIAL TRENCHES. {1} A SUBSEQUENT WATCHING BRIEF ON THE SITE IDENTIFIED AN APPARENTLY HOMOGENOUS MATERIAL OVER MUCH OF THE SITE HAS BEEN INTERPRETED AS A CULTIVATION HORIZON, AND IT CONTAINED OCCASIONAL SHERDS OF LATE SAXON POTTERY.
