Full Description

A tessellated pavement was found at Grange Farm when a hole was dug for a cattle grid. The pavement is still in situ. {1} The tesserae included yellow, blue, and green. Grey ware pottery has been found around the area. {2} Distinct cropmark rectangular enclosure ditches, suggestive of a Romano-British field system, were seen on Google Maps (web site) aerial photograph layer. {3}{4} A large scatter (approx. 146 sherds) of 3rd-4th century greyware pottery was seen nearby (centred on TF 0395 4283) during fieldwalking. Samian ware has also been reported from a nearby field, although the exact location is unclear. A single possible tegula was also found, and a concentration of slag was seen at TF 0392 4275. {5}{6}
