Full Description
There is a sharp decline in population in the 16th to 17th century. The population rose steadily from 52 households in 1801 to 88 in mid century. New roads were created in the early 19th century due to the creation of Brocklesby Park and enclosure in 1812. By the end of the 19th century all the old roads with one exception had been abandoned. Post medieval pottery was found during levelling and draining of a field in 1968. A chalk road surface was also revealed, which was identified with a road on the 1815 enclosure map. There are buildings which survive in the village dating from the 17th century to the 19th century. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
A chalk and flint surface was discovered during trial excavation on land to the south of St Peters Close. It is thought that this may be part of a trackway shown on a map of 1676. The general lack of post medieval material on the site suggests that it continued to be used for agriculture in this period. {6}{7}
