Full Description

A NOTABLE POPULATION INCREASE OCCURS IN BIGBY IN C16 TO THE BEGINNING OF THE C18 AND FALLS AGAIN UP TO 1801. THE NORTH AISLE OF THE CHURCH WAS REMOVED IN 1780. THE COMPACT VILLAGE ENCLOSURES OF 1731 CLOSELY RESEMBLE THE PRESENT VILLAGE. SOME EARLY PROPERTIES MAY HAVE BEEN ABANDONNED ON THE EAST OF THE THROUGH ROAD AND REPLACED BY LARGE PROPERTIES, INCLUDING THE 'URBANE' LATE C18 RECTORY. {1}{2}
