Full Description

The settlement remains of Clixby have been destroyed apart from some irregularities in pasture alongside All Hallows' Church. It is most likely from early aerial photographs and maps that it formed a two-row street village laid out along south-west to north-west through-way (now a footpath), linking the settlements below the scarp, and that the line of its street is effectively marked by the drive to Clixby Manor. Though initially smaller than Grasby and with a smaller township, Clixby fared through the medieval period at least as well as its neighbour and emerged in the mid 16th century slightly larger. {1} The earthworks of the settlement have been plotted from aerial photographs by the staff of the National Mapping Programme. {5}
