Full Description

The site of the monastic grange at Newton may be indicated by the name Grange Close, with adjacent or nearby fields named Grange Plots, Grange Meadow in 1813. St Katherine's Priory without Lincoln had a grange at Toft Newton, granted after the dissolution to John Bloxholme and John Bellowe. Its former presence may be confirmed by a modus or customary payment referred to in the Newton Tithe Award of 1843. Earthworks at Grange Close are recorded on aerial photographs and may have survived the bulldozing of the village earthworks of Newton in 1964 but have not been investigated. {1}
