Full Description

In Linwood Warren a local person reports that he has found much pottery in a very dark soil in the stream bank south of the known kiln area. {1} Much Romano-British pottery was found in a dark soil in a stream bank south of the known kiln area {2}. The grid reference given in this source is TF 1228 8761, which is not in Linwood Warren. The grid reference given in the published reference is preferred although it is not south of the kiln sites. A further grid reference is given for this site in the City and County Museum records, TF 129 875. This would appear to be a duplicate of the information in source 2 above.{3} The site is also recorded by Vivien Swan in her gazeteer at TF 129 876. {4} These last two grid references are within the area of Roman pottery kilns recorded as PRN 53363 it may well be that the correct grid reference for this site should be within this area of pottery kilns.
