THE SETTLEMENT WAS PART OF THE PRE-CONQUEST SOKE OF WRAGBY. THE DOMESDAY BOOK REOCRD OF DESMESNE ON THIS SOKELAND AND THE COMMENT THAT 12 SOKEMEN HAD NOTHING MAY SUGGEST THE MANORIALISATION WAS UNDER WAY, ALTHOUGH A RECENT DEVELOPMENT. {1}, HTM 43M
