THE DESERTED SETTLEMENT OF WESTLABY IS DOCUMENTED AS A SMALL SETTLEMENT IN 1086 AND SEPARATELY IN 1115, BUT THROUGHOUT THE MEDIEVAL TAXATION RECORDS IS SUBSUMED BY WICKENBY. IT WAS RETURNED AS A DISTINCT HAMLET IN 1563 COMPRSING 3 HOUSEHOLDS. THERE ARE ONLY FAINT INDICATIONS OF WHERE IT MAY BE, AS WITH THE GRANGE. {1}
