Full Description

A MONASTIC GRANGE AT WESTLABY BELONGED TO KIRKSTEAD ABBEY. THOUGH THERE IS SOME INDICATION THAT ITS CREATION MAY ORIGINATE IN THE LATE TWELFTH CENTURY GRANT, THE GRANGE IS DOCUMENTED PRINCIPALLY IN DISSOLUTION DOCUMENTS AND IN ITS POST-DISSOLUTION ALIENATION TO THE ST POL FAMILY OF SNARFORD. NO FIELD NAMES INDICATE ITS LOCATION, AND NO EARTHWORKS SURVIVE. IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE FORERUNNER OF THE PRESENT MANOR FARM (WESTLABY MANOR) OR HAVE BEEN LOCATED AT WESTLABY FARM WHERE THERE ARE FAINT TRACES OF REMAINS. {1}
