Full Description
THIS DITCH FEATURE IS LIKELY TO REPRESENT THE FOUNDATION TRENCH OF A CIRCULAR STRUCTURE SUCH AS A SMALL ROUNDHOUSE OR ENCLOSURE. POTTERY FOUND WITHIN THE DITCH AND THE AREA ENCLOSED BY IT IS OF IRON AGE DATE. THE PRESENCE OF DOMESTIC POTTERY SUGGESTS THAT THE STRUCTURE WAS A SMALL DWELLING, OR POSSIBLY A STOREROOM. ALTERNATIVELY IT COULD BE A LIVESTOCK PEN; IT IS NOT A REGULAR CIRCLE AND IT APPEARS TO HAVE HAD AN EXTREMELY WIDE ENTRANCE. {1}
