THE EARLY DEVELOPMENT OF THE VILLAGE IS OBSCURE, BUT THE LATE DEVELOPMENT OF PART OF IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED. IT NEVER ACQUIRED A PARISH CHURCH. THE EARTHWORKS FALL INTO TWO DISTINCT GROUPS, WITH THOSE WEST OF THE MANOR FARM REPRESENTING THE EARLIER PART AND THE SECOND NORTH WEST OF WALK FARM THE LATER.
